A Natrona County firefighter was hospitalized in critical condition after suffering a massive stroke while responding to a grass fire Thursday.

Firefighter Adam Longo was driving a squad truck to the station to pick up a brush truck when he fell ill, Fire Investigator told The Billings Gazette.

Other firefighters in the truck were able to get control of the vehicle and bring it to a safe stop after Longo suffered the stroke.

Longo had surgery Thursday afternoon and was listed in critical but stable condition on Friday.

He was part of a crew that was responding to a grass fire near Andrea Street west of Salk Creek Highway that destroyed a small camper and burned about 3,000 square feet of grass.
