INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man jumped from his third-floor balcony to escape a fire in his apartment early Sunday, fire officials said.

Wayne Township firefighters were called to 7836 Big Horn Trail at the Cambridge Station Apartments on a report of a fire just before 5:30 a.m.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from a third-floor unit.

The building was evacuated and the fire was brought under control in 30 minutes, fire officials said.

A man in the apartment where the fire started said he awoke to smoke alarms going off. He jumped from his balcony to the second-floor balcony and then to the ground.

He was not injured. No injures were reported in connection with the fire.

The cause of the fire had not been determined Sunday morning.
