A 72-year-old woman escaped from the second floor of a burning house Monday night by climbing through a window onto a roof where she was rescued by a neighbor, fire officials said.

Betty Hanes, and her husband, Ken Hanes, 61, were taken to Toledo Hospital, where they were treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters found the couple's home at 328 Decatur St. fully involved in flames when they arrived about 8:50 p.m.

A neighbor who saw the dwelling was burning carried a ladder to the porch, climbed up, and helped Mrs. Hanes off the roof.

Mr. Hanes told firefighters the television in the living room made a popping noise. He went to the basement to look at the fuse box and returned to the first floor to find it filled with smoke. He got out of the house through the back door.

The cause of the fire had not been determined by late Monday night.
