MINOOKA, Ill. -- Numerous local agencies responded Monday afternoon to a fire at a metal recycling business in Minooka.
Calls to Minooka Fire Chief Al Yancey were not yet returned, however, Minooka Superintendent of Public Works Rob Tonarelli said the fire was outside of the building on the property of First America Metal Corp., located at 113 Industrial Dr.
After firefighters put out the fire, he said they began an investigation into the cause.
Joe Sasso, of E-Conomy Landscaping, was at a business down the road from the fire when he was alerted to it.
"My secretary was in the office and we heard a boom," he said, adding she stepped out of the office for a moment and returned.
"The secretary said, 'You'd better come out here,'" he said.
Outside, he described seeing smoke billowing over the top of the building, and watching as several fire trucks arrived on scene, some from as far as Plainfield and Manhattan.
"It was pretty bad," he said.
