At least 12 people were killed and more than 100 were injured in Thailand after an explosion rocked the country's largest petro-chemical plant.

At least 12 people were killed and more than 100 were injured in Thailand after an explosion rocked the country's largest petro-chemical plant.

The blaze sent black smoke throughout the area and was brought under control after close to four hours, according to the BBC.

The incident at the Map Ta Phut plant in the Rayong province occurred on Saturday when workers were cleaning a chemical tank on the site.

The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation.
