GREELEY, Colo. -- Firefighters rescued a construction worker who fell from scaffolding onto a gym roof at the University of Northern Colorado on Wednesday.

The man fell about 15 feet from scaffolding onto the roof of Butler Hancock Gym at 10:50 a.m., said Greeley Fire Division Chief Dale Lyman.

Firefighters used an aerial ladder truck to help carry the injured man on a rescue litter to the ground and an awaiting ambulance, Lyman said.

"It saved a lot of time," Lyman said. Without the aerial ladder, firefighters would have had to carry the victim up a series of ladders and scaffolding, he added.

The man had bruises to his head and possible broken ribs and chest bones and internal injuries, Lyman said. He was transported to Northern Colorado Medical Center in stable condition.
