Firefighters and neighbors rescued two people from a second-floor apartment in north Spokane on Sunday afternoon after the building caught fire.

The Spokane Fire Department responded at 3:16 p.m. to 406 E. Montgomery Ave. to find a two-story wood-framed apartment building with smoke showing from the roof, a news release from the department said.

With help from people in the neighborhood, firefighters used ladders to rescue two people through the window of the second-floor apartment.

Firefighters then put out the fire, which was confined to the second-floor apartment.

No injuries were reported.

Damage to the building was estimated at $20,000, the release said.
