DENTON COUNTY, Texas -- A grass fire burned more than 600 acres in northeast Denton County on Wednesday and destroyed five buildings, a Denton County official said. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters believe the fire started while hay was being cut, Jody Gonzalez, director of emergency services for the county, said. The blaze began shortly before noon and was contained about 4 p.m. The land is between Pilot Point and Celina.

Two barns and at least three utility buildings were destroyed. Some cows had to be moved, Gonzalez said.

About 80 firefighters from volunteer departments in Denton, Grayson and Collin counties, and professional departments including Denton and Lewisville assisted, he said.

Wind gusting to 40 mph spread the fire.
