N.J. Firefighter Critical Following Tractor-Trailer Fire

Florence Township Firefighter Brian Richardson was flown to Capital Health Regional Medical Center with a head injury and is listed in critical condition in the Neurointensive Care Unit.

Seven firefighters were injured, one critically, after a tractor-trailer caught fire on a highway in Mansfield Thursday afternoon.

Florence Township Firefighter Brian Richardson was flown to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton with a head injury and is listed in critical condition in the Neurointensive Care Unit, according to KYW-TV.

Six other firefighters were transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-295 in Burlington County when the tractor-trailer's driver noticed smoke coming from the truck.

State police officials told the news station that the truck caught fire before the intense flames blew the doors open, injuring the firefighters.

The incident is currently under investigation.
