Indianapolis Fire Kills One, Injures Firefighter

A firefighter reportedly fell through the floor and ended up in the basement of the home, but was able to walk to an ambulance.

INDIANAPOLIS --

One person has died after a house caught fire on Indianapolis' northwest side Thursday morning.

Crews were called to a one-story ranch home at 5040 Mason Drive, near 52nd Street and Georgetown Road, just before 8 a.m.

The fire is believed to have started in the basement of the home.

A person who lives in the home was pulled from the fire but died at the scene, fire officials said.

A firefighter fell through the floor and ended up in the basement of the home while battling the blaze. Witnesses said he was able to walk to an ambulance.
