Wis. Firefighter Rescued After Falling Through Roof
A firefighter fell through the roof while fighting a blaze at an Oregon condominium on Saturday night, the Oregon Area Fire & EMS District reported.
Another firefighter was able to hang onto the firefighter who fell through the roof until two other firefighters helped pull him back onto the roof, according to a district news release.
The firefighter who fell through roof, who was not identified, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. No further information on the firefighter's condition was available.
Another firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion at the scene.
The Oregon Area Fire & EMS District had been fighting a 2-acre brush fire in the town of Oregon with several other departments for a couple of hours when the fire at the condo at 199 Prairie Grass Road in the village of Oregon was reported at 7:48 p.m., the release states.
Several units left the brush fire for the condo fire and other units were called in from neighboring departments. On arrival they found heavy fire and smoke coming from one condo of the 6-unit building at South Point Condos, according to the release.
The occupants of the condo were not home and no other injuries were reported, although a cat is missing from an adjacent condo.
The condo fire was brought under control in about 90 minutes, with damage estimated at about $100,000.
The State Fire Marshall is investigating the blaze, with no cause determined as of early Sunday morning, the release states.
In all, more than 50 firefighters and emergency medical technicians from 11 departments responded to the two fires.
The Red Cross is assisting residents displaced by the fire in the condo building.
