Fire Chief Bill Diehm was wearing a safety vest while he was directing traffic at a foot race when he was hit, according to WNEP-TV.

He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and sustained several broken bones.

Details about the incident are scant, but Jim Thorpe Police Chief Joseph Schatz says there will be more answers soon.

"The investigation is continuing, and we’re interviewing some people and we’re waiting for the results to come back on tests before we make a determination on any charges," he told the news station.

He said that there have been reports that the driver of the delivery truck was texting on a cell phone at the time of the crash and that possibility is currently being looked into.
