A Western Taney County Fire Protection District water tanker overturned while responding to a brush fire Friday afternoon.

The tanker truck rolled over as the driver attempted to make a left hand turn from Highway 65 onto Bear Creek Road, according to a department news release.

Three firefighters were on board the apparatus. Two received minor cuts and bruises while a third was transported to Skaggs Hospital for evaluation and has since been released.

All of the firefighters were wearing seat belts, which fire officials credit to preventing more serious injuries.

The brush fire they were responding to spread from a trash fire into the woods along a creek bed near Bear Creek Road.

It took crews about two hours to contain the fire, which grew to about five acres.
