Two Indy Firefighters Injured Battling House Fire

Two firefighters were hospitalized after they were hurt battling an early-morning house fire on the city's east side.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Two firefighters were hospitalized after they were hurt battling an early-morning house fire on the city's east side.

At bout 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, Indianapolis Fire Department crews were dispatched to the 3000 block of East Vermont Street on reports of a structure fire.

When firefighters arrived, they found a home engulfed in flames.

As IFD crews worked for nearly 30 minutes to contain the blaze, officials said two firefighters suffered neck and back injuries. They were rushed to Methodist Hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately released.

Arson investigators were called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

The house was vacant and officials said it was a total loss.
