INDIANAPOLIS --

Indianapolis Fire Department crews investigated the latest in a string of overnight vacant house fires on Friday.

Just after 1:00 a.m., IFD firefighters were dispatched to the 4400 block of North Evanston Avenue on reports of a structure fire.

When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire pouring from a two-story home.

Firefighters battled the blaze for more than 30 minutes before finally gaining control.

Officials said one firefighter suffered minor injuries.

IFD officials called the fire suspicious and asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

There have been multiple fires in recent days overnight at Indianapolis homes, most of them vacant.
