A former Norfolk firefighter has been charged a second time with arson in Maryland.

David Clifton Parks, 37, is charged with second-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning and malicious destruction of property, according to Worcester County Fire Marshal Jeffrey McMahon. Parks, of Melfa, Va., was arrested in Virginia and is being held in jail in Maryland on a $500,000 bond.

The arson charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $30,000 fine, McMahon said.

Firefighters were called to a barn fire in Pocomoke City, Md., shortly before 5 p.m. April 11.

No injuries were reported in the blaze. McMahon said he could not comment on details of the investigation, which was conducted with the help of the Virginia State Police.

In 2006, Parks was sentenced to 20 years in prison by a Maryland judge who suspended all but eight years. In that case, Parks was accused of setting four fires the same night. Two people were inside a home that burned, but no one was hurt. He agreed to plead guilty to two counts of arson and two counts of reckless endangerment.

He was terminated from his job with Norfolk Fire-Rescue, where he was hired in 2004.
