Indianapolis Firefighter Injured While Battling Blaze

A firefighter was injured while battling an overnight house fire on the city's near north side.

INDIANAPOLIS -- A firefighter was injured while battling an overnight house fire on the city's near north side, Indianapolis Fire Department officials said.

Just after 2:30 a.m., IFD crews were dispatched to a home in the 400 block of West 28th Street on reports of a structure fire.

When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames shooting through the roof of a two-story vacant home.

Firefighters said the home was vacant.

Firefighters said they battled the blaze for 45 minutes before gaining control.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries, officials said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
