Portland Crews Battle Two-Alarm Commercial Fire

Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at R and J Recycling Tuesday afternoon.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at a commercial building Tuesday afternoon.

Crews responded to R and J Recycling at 7428 North St. Louis Avenue around 2:25 p.m. to find the structure fully involved in flames, according to a department news release.

Firefighters from Station 22 arrived on scene in just three minutes with an engine and a ladder truck and immediately pulled 2 and 1/2 inch hose lines and assumed a defensive attack.

Firefighters from Station 8 focused efforts on saving a neighboring house as flames began to spread.

The fire was brought under control at 3:12 pm. and crews remained on the scene to douse hot spots.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
