Firefighters discovered the bodies after flames ripped through the Casas Tejas apartment complex.

Three people were killed in a fire at a downtown Killeen apartment complex early Friday morning.

Firefighters discovered the bodies after flames ripped through the Casas Tejas apartment complex at 1302 North Cary Street shortly after midnight, according to The Killeen Daily Herald.

Killeen Police Department spokeswoman Carroll Smith told the newspaper that all three bodies were found in the same unit.

Crews responded to the burning complex after receiving a call at approximately 12:04 a.m.

Within hours the flames engulfed the entire structure as firefighters worked to get it under control.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
