SAN LEANDRO , Calif.-- A firefighter suffered a serious cut to his leg while cutting a hole in the roof of a restaurant during a two-alarm fire early Tuesday morning, officials said.

No one else was injured. The firefighter, a captain, was transported to Eden Medical Center and is recovering, according to Battalion Chief Ron Figuera of the Alameda County Fire Department.

The call came in about 2:07 a.m. to the Tequila Grill restaurant at 1350 E. 14th Street. Smoke and flames were reported at the back of the building.

A second alarm was called shortly after the first crews arrived on the scene, and the 33 firefighters on scene did "a great job" aggressively attacking the blaze, Figuera said. The fire was contained around 2:45 a.m.

The quick response kept the fire from spreading beyond the back section of the restaurant, Figurea said. The cause is still under investigation.
