A Watertown firefighter fell ill while at the scene of a collision Monday morning.
The 28-year-old firefighter was exiting the rescue truck he was driving on Franklin Street around 8 a.m. when he collapsed to the pavement, according to The Watertown Daily Times.
The firefighter was quickly tended to by his colleagues before being transported to Samaritan Medical Center and was expected to be released by Tuesday afternoon.
Fire Chief Dale C. Herman told the newspaper that the firefighter was wearing his helmet, which protected him from a possible head injury.
Herman said that luckily the firefighter didn't suffer the medical emergency while he was operating the rig.
The firefighter is expected back on duty after a physician issues a signed approval.
