Milwaukee Firefighter Falls Through Floor During Blaze

A 61-year-old woman is being treated at St. Mary's Hospital for smoke inhalation and possible burns.

A 61-year-old woman is being treated at St. Mary's Hospital for smoke inhalation and possible burns after she escaped from a fire in Riverwest Wednesday morning, according to Milwaukee police and fire officials.

A firefighter was being evaluated for injuries after falling through the floor into the basement, according to the fire department.

The woman was out of the building when firefighters arrived at 6 a.m. at the home in the 2500 block of N. Booth St. The fire started on the first floor. Its origin remains under investigation. It does not appear to be suspicious, police said.

It took about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control. At 7:45 a.m., firefighters were checking walls to make sure it did not reignite. The investigation continues.
