Michigan Firefighter Collapses, Dies After Shift

A Michigan firefighter who participated in a training drill on Sunday collapsed and died Monday morning.

Lt. John Grabowski, 49, was a part-time career firefighter with Riverview Fire Department.

The USFA reported that on Sunday during his shift, Grabowski took part in training. On Monday morning, he was found unresponsive in a parking lot at his second job.

The emergency response crew from BASF Chemical initiated CPR. Advanced life support personnel also treated him en route to Henry Ford Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of death has not been determined.

Funeral Arrangements

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. for family and 5 p.m. for friends and on Friday, Oct. 5 from noon to 9 p.m. at Czopek Funeral Home, 2157 Oak Street, Wyandotte, Mich.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 976 Pope John Paul II Avenue, Wyandotte, Mich.
