Danbury firefighters battling a house fire Saturday afternoon were assaulted by a man who threatened to kill them after returning home.

Danbury firefighters battling a house fire Saturday afternoon were assaulted by a man who threatened to kill them after returning home.

Crews responded to the fire on Ridge Road just before 1:30 p.m. and were wrapping things up when Matthew Cimino arrived home around 3 p.m., according to The News Times.

Cimino, 56, found out firefighters discovered a load, 20-gauge shotgun in his bedroom.

Police told the newspaper that because of his past criminal record, the man is barred from owning a weapon.

Firefighters had called police after finding the gun and were able to subdue Cimino until police arrived to arrest him.

No firefighters were injured in the incident.

Cimino was charged with five counts of interfering with the duties of emergency personnel, threatening, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and refusal to be fingerprinted.
