A man was found dead and a firefighter from the Clackamas Fire District was injured following a blaze that destroyed a home early Sunday morning.

Crews responded to the fire at 5135 Southeast El Centro Way in Oak Grove around 3:15 a.m. after receiving reports from neighbors, according to a department news release.

Officials said the home was being remodeled and large amounts of household products were stacked throughout.

Natural gas flowing from a broken supply line also complicated things for firefighters, who took more than two hours to contain the blaze.

Heavy machinery was used to remove debris away from the structure before it was safe enough for firefighters to enter.

The body of the man was found shortly after 1 p.m.

A firefighter was taken to a local hospital falling from the rear of the structure while battling the flames.

Fire investigators are working to identify the cause of the blaze.
