The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department was able to stop a blaze within 15 minutes at the Riverview Hotel Monday night.

Capt. Rex Summers said no one was reported injured during the fire, which was called in to 911 at 8:31 p.m.

Summers said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but firefighters were able to contain the blaze to two adjacent rooms on the fourth floor. He said there was no damage to the rooms directly above and below those two rooms.

Rhonda Ray, who lives in one of the rooms that caught fire, said she was in her room when sparks came out of the heater/air conditioner unit and set the floor under her bed on fire.

"It spread very quickly," she said.

Ray said she wasn't injured, but worried about her possessions in the room. She said she's lived in the room for a couple of years.

Firefighters evacuated everyone in the hotel to the adjacent Riverview Ballroom.

In Feb. 2011, there also was a fire at the hotel, which is located at the corner of Broadway and Walnut streets. No one was injured during that fire, either, and firefighters were able to contain it quickly.
