Colorado Fire Chief Dies of Apparent Heart Attack

Southern Park County Fire Protection District Chief Don Felton, who was just appointed to the position in April, died in his office at the fire station.

The fire chief of the Southern Park County Fire Protection District died on Oct. 27 while working in his office.

Fire Chief Don Felton, 71, was pronounced dead after suffering an apparent heart attack at his fire station in Guffey, Colo., according to a department press release.

Felton had served as chief of the department since April 1 of this year.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara, and their three daughters.

Funeral Arrangements

A memorial service for Chief Felton is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. at Station No. 1, 1745 Park County Road 102 in Guffey, Colo.

A community potluck will follow the service with food provided by the Southern Park County Fire Protection District's Auxiliary and the Four Mile Fire Protection District Auxiliary.
