A North Carolina fire chief died Nov. 7 after falling ill at the scene of an incident.
Kernersville Chief Walter M. Summerville III, 55, was with his department at a triple shooting on Nov. 6, and went to sit in his vehicle after telling his crews he wasn't feeling well, according to the USFA.

He was found deceased at his home by a family member.
Summerville rose through the ranks in the Kernersville Fire Department.
