Dec. 07--A tugboat caught fire off this morning off Georges Island, where authorities say they quickly doused it.

The Coast Guard and Boston firefighters responded shortly after 8 a.m. to what a Coast Guard spokesman described as an engine room fire on a "small tug boat."

"We got the fire out," spokesman Adam Stanton said, adding that the boat was being escorted into the harbor, though he was unsure to where.

Stanton said he did not have any immediate information about any possible injuries, how many people were aboard or if anyone was in the water. The cause was also unclear.

A Boston fire department spokesman was not immediately available for comment.
