Dec. 12--Firefighters from seven cities helped Liberty battle a two-alarm hotel blaze that forced as many as 50 people to flee early this morning.

A firefighter fell 10 feet from a second-story balcony. Nobody else was injured in the blaze that swept through the Day's Inn at 209 N. Missouri 291, just north of West Kansas Street in Liberty.

The firefighter was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released.

Passersby reported the fire when they saw flames and smoke billowing from the hotel about 3 a.m.

Firefighters from seven cities responded to the fire or staged at Liberty fire stations as crews battled the blaze.

The cause is under investigation. The Missouri fire marshal is on the scene trying to determine how it started.
