Dec. 26--ST. LOUIS -- Two people were injured in a fire that caused extensive damage early Wednesday to a two-story frame home in the 5300 block of Greer Avenue.

When firefighters arrived just before 2 a.m., both levels were on fire, and one of the six occupants was trapped on the second story, said Capt. Dan Sutter.

Firefighters used a ladder to rescue the person from a window; another occupant had reportedly jumped from a window before firefighters arrived, Sutter said. The other four in the home escaped without incident.

Two of the residents were treated at the scene and then transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Red Cross was called in to assist the family. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Sutter said.
