Jan. 03--DEERFIELD BEACH -- Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and divers pulled three people from a vehicle that went into a lake in Deerfield Beach late Wednesday night, officials said.

The vehicle swerved off southbound Interstate 95 and into the water on the west side of the highway between Hillsboro Boulevard and Southwest 10th Street, according to Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles.

"Three young adults, two females and a male, were taken by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue units to Broward Health North," he said. "All three were listed in critical condition."

Divers continued to search the water after the three people, thought to be in their 20s, were taken to the hospital.

"One of the patients was in cardiac arrest and they actually resuscitated [her] on the way [to the hospital] but she was still extremely critical," Jachles said.

The Florida Highway Patrol and Broward Sheriff's deputies, firefighters, the marine unit and a helicopter combined efforts at the accident scene.

Two lanes of southbound I-95 were temporarily closed to traffic during the search and rescue operation. Northbound lanes were unaffected, he said.
