Jan. 20--Sixteen people were displaced from their homes Sunday after a three-alarm fire in Allentown.

The fire started at about 1:45 p.m. in a second-floor ceiling at 503 W. Washington St., fire Capt. John Christopher said. It then spread to the adjacent rowhomes at 501 and 505 W. Washington. The upper floors of all three residences were damaged.

Firefighters stopped the blaze from spreading further by cutting a fire break in the roof of the rowhomes.

"They got ahead of it really quickly," Christopher said.

Their work was hampered by high winds.

No one was injured in the fire. The 13 adults and three children who were not allowed to return to their homes are staying with friends or relatives. The cause of the fire is under investigation but it is not considered suspicious, Christopher said.
