Jan. 24--Durant Fire Department responded to a fire cause by a water heater at 702 W. Locust Street Tuesday evening.
The flames were contained by the time firefighters arrived. A neighbor had extinguished much of the fire with an ABC fire extinguisher and had already turned off gas to the residence.
When fire fighters arrived, they were able to extinguish the remaining flames with a dry chemical fire extinguisher and the fire was limited to the water heater closet, according to a department report.
Firefighters used positive pressure fans in open windows to remove smoke from the residence. Reports indicate the house received very little smoke damage.
Firefighters remained on scene until Oklahoma Natural Gas (ONG) arrived to investigate. April Taylor was the occupant of the home, according to the fire department.
In other fires, Danny Randell received burn injuries while trying to put out a fire early Tuesday morning at his home at 516 N. Third Avenue. He was taken to the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma for treatment and although the injuries were described as minor, he was later flown out to be treated for the burns. The cause of that fire is under investigation.
