RALEIGH, N.C. — Several injuries were reported after officials said a Raleigh apartment building caught fire during Friday’s winter weather storm.
WTVD reported that officials said the fire broke out at the Mission Valley Apartments on Centennial Parkway around 4 p.m.
Fire crews said much of the damaged was contained to apartment 101, but did spread to others in the three-story building.
WTVD reported that six people were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Officials said one of those injured was a Raleigh police officer who was one of the first on the scene and was overcome by smoke.
The Raleigh fire chief said because of the road conditions the response time was slower than usual, and the officer was trying to help residents out in the event that fire crews would take longer.
Authorities said at least 27 people were displaced in the blaze and have gathered at the Burger King on Avent Ferry Road to be checked out by EMS crews.
Officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
