Ala. Firefighter Dies of Apparent Heart Attack

A firefighter with the South Alabama Regional Airport Fire Department in Andalusia, Ala., died of an apparent heart attack while performing safety checks on the runway at the airport on January 8.

A firefighter with the South Alabama Regional Airport Fire Department in Andalusia, Ala., died of an apparent heart attack while performing safety checks on the runway at the airport on January 8, according to a notice from the U.S. Fire Adminstration.

Jonathan Wayne Burgess of Opp, Ala., was 33-years-old at the time of his death and leaves his wife, parents and sister. His funeral was held on Jan. 11 and burial followed in Bethel Cemetery, according to his obituary that was released by Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel.

Burgess was also a captain at the Opp (Ala.) Fire Department, according to the department's web site.
