Jan. 30, 2013
A Hudson firefighter was injured when he was struck by a vehicle running toward the Central Fire Station to answer a fire alarm. He received injuries to one of his legs and hands.

A city of Hudson firefighter was injured Monday evening in what officials described as a hit and run accident. The 35-year-old firefighter was struck at the intersection of Seventh Street and State Street by an unidentified vehicle while running towards the Central Station firehouse at Seventh Street around 7:15 p.m. His name wasn’t released by the City of Hudson Fire Department Monday night after the incident.

The firefighter was responding to a fire alarm activation at Columbia Memorial Hospital, which turned out to be a malfunction, said City of Hudson Fire Department Chief Craig Haigh.

“The car knocked him down and kept going,” said Haigh.

Haigh said he didn’t have a description of the vehicle. Greenport Rescue Squad responded to the accident and transported the volunteer firefighter to Columbia Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries to his leg and hands. Haigh described the injuries as minor.

“He’s got some bumps and bruises. He is gonna be O.K.”
