Texas Firefighter Hurt in Fall Through Floor at Apt. Fire

One resident was taken to an area hospital by emergency workers for a medical issue and one firefighter suffered a leg injury when he fell from the attic to the third floor of an Austin apartment fire.

Feb. 01--A Northeast Austin apartment complex fire late Thursday left 27 people displaced and crews continue to investigate the scene for a cause, officials said overnight.

The two-alarm fire at 2250 Ridgepoint Drive badly damaged 24 units at the Promontory Point Apartments, officials said. All 24 units, located in one building at the complex, saw heavy fire or water damage.

One resident was taken to an area hospital by emergency workers for medical issue and one firefighter suffered a leg injury when he fell from the attic to the third floor of the building. The firefighter was transported to St. David's Medical Center in good condition at last report, officials have said.

Apartment management and the American Red Cross are assisting the displaced residents, officials said.

The fire is believed to have started on one of the top floors or attic of the apartment complex building that saw fire, officials have said.

Residents told the American-Statesman they heard an explosion around the time the fire started. Fire officials have not yet issued a cause.
