Condo Fire Sends Two to Hospital in Virginia

Residents in a Virginia condo suffered injuries after it caught fire. One resident was injured in a jump from the fire and a second was burned trying to fight it with a garden hose.

Feb. 04--VIRGINIA BEACH -- Two people were taken to a hospital after a condo fire this morning in the 1100 block of Ocean Pebbles Way.

One person jumped from the second floor to escape the flames and suffered a broken arm, according to Battalion Chief Tim Riley. The other person suffered minor burns from trying to douse the fire with a garden hose before firefighters arrived.

The fire was reported about 1 a.m. and was under control by 1:30 a.m., dispatchers said.

A smoke detector woke the residents, who were sleeping when the fire began.

The fire is believed to be an accident. Investigators are trying to determine the cause.
