Train Hits Semi Truck, Derails in Pennsylvania

A train hit the rear of a tractor trailer truck turning around on a railroad track in Bell Township causing the derailment of three train engines and three cars. Two injuries were reported.

Feb. 05--A hazardous material crew is working to contain leaking oil and other substances after a train derailment in Salina, Bell Township, Westmoreland County.

Officials said a Norfolk Southern train hit the rear of a tractor trailer that was turning around across the tracks at about 7:30 a.m., said Westmoreland County emergency services spokesman Dan Stevens.

He said the wreck caused the derailment of three train engines and three cars.

The truck driver and another person required treatment.

About an hour after the crash, hazardous material specialists were asking volunteer firefighters if they came into contact with the chemicals.
