Woman Dies in Michigan House Fire

Three people made it out of the St. Clair County home uninjured, but a woman was trapped inside and died.

Feb. 15--A woman died in a house fire in St. Clair County this morning, according to investigators.

The blaze broke out at about 4 a.m. today in a home in the 900 block of Lathrop Road in Berlin Township, according to township Fire Chief Brian Phillips. According to a release by the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, responding firefighters and sheriff's office deputies found the house engulfed in flames. Three people made it out of the home uninjured, but a woman was trapped inside and died. Investigators were not releasing any additional information about the woman, who was declared dead at the scene.

Fire departments from Armada, Memphis and Mussey and Emmett townships helped put out the fire by 6 a.m. Investigators will try to determine how the fire began once additional hot spots are cooled and the site is secure, according to the sheriff's office. A cause was not immediately known this morning, according to the report.
