Police found the house on fire while reporting a call about shots fired. Firefighters waited for police to sweep the house before doing an interior attack.

Feb. 13--BRIDGEPORT -- A man was badly burned in a fire Wednesday morning on Roberts Street.

Police were initially called to 158 Roberts St. for a report of shots fired, but when they arrived the house was on fire. They then called the fire department. National Guard crews aiding Bridgeport in the aftermath of the blizzard also responded.

Firefighters spotted a woman hanging from a third floor window and used a ladder to rescue her. In the meantime, police, still concerned there was a gunman, went into the house.

On the second floor they forced open a door and found a man suffering from burns to his arms and chest. They rescued him and he was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment. He is reportedly in critical condition.

Police are working to determine whether any shots were ever fired. The injured man is the son of the woman who was rescued.
