Pa. Fire Police Officer Dies Directing Traffic

Diligence Fire Police Officer Claudia Sokol will be buried following services on Wednesday.

A Pennsylvania fire department is mourning the loss of one of their own.

Diligence Fire Police Officer Claudia Sokol died Friday while directing traffic at a collision.

On Saturday, Fire Chief Shawn Hoben announced on the department's Facebook page that Sokol suffered a medical emergency while doing her duty. "The entire membership of the Diligence Fire Company No. 1 wishes to express our heartfelt condolences to her husband David and her entire family."

Wake services will take place at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Chuch, 104 E. Abbott St in Lansford on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m.

On Wednesday, there will be visiting from 10-11 a.m. at the church. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m.

A fire apparatus procession will proceed from the church to the GAR cemetery on East White Street in Summit Hill. Parking for apparatus will be on the 100 block of E. Bertsch St in Lansford.

Fire police officers are members of fire and rescue departments who are trained by law enforcement to direct traffic at emergency scenes.
