Fla. Firefighters Rescue Raccoon Stuck in Soup Can

Someone dropped off a raccoon with a soup can stuck on its head at the Coral Spring Fire Rescue station. Once free, the raccoon, named Rocky, ran into the bushes.

March 01--Sometimes your eyes are bigger than your stomach, but in the case of a Coral Springs raccoon, his head was bigger than a soup can.

The animal was dropped off at the Coral Springs Fire Rescue station Thursday with a note attached.

It read: Baby racoon [sic]. Please help. I was in the dumpster and got a soup can stuck on my head. It won't come off. Please help me. Thank you. Rocky.

It's unknown how the raccoon managed to write this note. Firefighters suspect it was actually written by the person who dropped off the raccoon.

They sprang into action, fashioning a can opener out of metal cutters and gingerly cutting the silver can over the top of the raccoon's head without injuring it, said fire Capt. Mike Moser.

Once free, the raccoon fell backward and jumped out of the plastic tub used to contain him during the procedure.

The raccoon darted under a parked car and then into some bushes, leaving the rescuers a feeling of accomplishment -- and video of the adventure.
