March 07--RANSOMVILLE -- The occupant of a house at 4029 Andrews Road escaped a fire Wednesday morning, but a firefighter from the Pekin Fire Co. was transported by Rural Metro Ambulance to Buffalo General Hospital for treatment.
Pekin Fire Chief Kevin Beutel would not release the fireman's name but said, "He's OK."
According to Cambria Fire Chief Shawn McIntyre, the Pekin firefighter was inside the house, wearing full gear and an airpack when he became weak and dizzy. The fireman was evaluated at the scene and taken by ambulance to the hospital.
McIntyre was not at the scene; Cambria assistant chief Jon Pressley was the chief in charge.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call at 11:12 a.m. reporting there was a house fire. When emergency personnel arrived, a resident, Charles King, was standing in the driveway. Flames coming from the front of the house and were reaching the roof area.
According to the fire report, the blaze started on the front living room wall. King, 26, had just started a fire in his wood stove when flames spread to the living room wall. He was the only person in the house at the time of the fire. The owner of the residence, Michael King, was notified of the fire and also responded to the scene.
Fire companies from Cambria, Ransomville and Pekin responded to the blaze and Wrights Corners served as backup.
Assistant Chief of Cambria, Kenneth Kozacki, said that the fire was contained to the front section of the residence.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Niagara County Origin and Cause team.
