March 11--One woman broke her leg after jumping to safety during a fire at an East Side apartment complex this morning.

Three others also were injured in the fire at the three-story building at 4595 Refugee Rd., near Eastland Mall.

One person was treated at the scene. The others were taken to Grant Medical Center. Their injuries were not life-threatening, Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Patrick Ferguson said.

A State Highway Patrol trooper reported the fire at 9:53 a.m., and firefighters had the blaze under control about 30 minutes later.

The trooper was driving by and saw the smoke.

Twelve apartments were damaged. The fire may have started on the second floor, but a cause hasn't been determined, Ferguson said.
