March 16--BRIARCLIFFE ACRES -- Kyle Lamparter, police chief for Briarcliffe Acres, stopped a car that was driving while on fire about 7 p.m. Friday night, according to a police report.
Lamparter said he was parked near Middle Gate Road when he saw flames underneath the engine of Buick that was driving north on U.S. 17. Lamparter stopped the car and told the driver about the fire.
North Myrtle Beach firefighters responded to put out the fire.
Horry County police and the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety directed traffic around the burning vehicle.
No one was injured in the car fire, and the car was completely destroyed, Lamparter said. The driver was picked up by a family member and the damaged car was towed off the roadway.
