A firefighter was hurt at a Westport garage fire that quickly spread to the outside of the home on the property on Wednesday morning.

March 28--WESTPORT -- A garage fire at a home on Pond Edge Road Wednesday morning spread quickly to the outside of the house and injured a firefighter.

Fire officials responded at 11:04 a.m. and found flames coming from the right and rear side of the building, assistant chief Larry Conklin said in a release.

The residents are both physically disabled, but a health care worker who was at the house had gotten them out, Conklin said.

Fire officials used dry chemical extinguishers as well as hose lines to put out the fire, due to the presence of flammable liquids in the garage, Conklin said.

There was limited damage to the interior upper floors, and officials cleared the scene at 11:51 a.m., Conklin said.

There was one injury to a firefighter, Conklin said. He was taken to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation. There were no other injuries.
