One of the Bryan firefighters hurt in the Knights of Columbus fire that killed two lieutenants has been released from the burn unit and will undergo extensive therapy.

March 28--Bryan firefighter Rickey D. Mantey Jr. has been released from the Blocker Burn Unit in Galveston, Chief Randy McGregor said Wednesday.

Mantey, 30, has remained in the burn unit since he fought the blaze at the Knights of Columbus Hall that killed Lt. Eric Wallace and Lt. Greg Pickard in mid-February.

McGregor said he will be staying with his family in a condo in Galveston and will undergo therapy at the burn unit five days a week.

"We are just very excited that he got to this point," McGregor said.

Mitch Moran, 21, who was also injured in the Feb. 15 fire, remains in the burn unit. McGregor said Moran will likely undergo at least one more surgery and soon will be able to "follow in Ricky's footsteps."
