Officials: S.C. Dad, Daughter Killed in Suspicious Fire

Aiken County Sheriff's officials are investigating the fire, which took the life of a 28-year-old man and his two-year-old daughter as arson.

May 12--A house fire that killed a father and daughter in Montmorenci on Saturday is being investigated as arson, according to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

The fire, which took place on Old Tory Trail, occurred at about 10:08 a.m. according to police.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton identified the father as 28-year-old Dunkan Baker, who was pronounced dead at approximately 3 p.m. at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Bakers' two-year-old daughter was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled in Newberry on Sunday morning.

Both Baker and his daughter died from thermal injuries and smoke inhalation, Carlton said.

Capt. Eric Abdullah of the Aiken County Sheriff's Office said Aiken County dispatchers received an emergency call from a passing motorist on Saturday morning about the house fire.

Montmorenci Fire Department, EMS and Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene.
